Going against a premonition that she was too sick for surgery, the author of this memoir relinquished her own judgment to that of the surgeon's who told her, "Come in and I'll evaluate you." The surgery was performed and LaRae ended up on life-support, not expected to live. Even though the events she reveals are tragic, she tells the story with a sense of humor--something that helped her survive the unsurvivable. Parry discloses this horrific true story in hopes that readers can learn from her mistake--never surrender your own judgment for that of another's. Readers of this book will worry, laugh, cry, and possibly cheer as Parry shines the light on the many things that can go wrong and go right while enduring trials and tribulations.

I have had the pleasure of ‘meeting’ LaRae online almost a year ago when we both entered an ‘Author of the Year’ competition. Her charming sense of humor immediately appealed to me.I’ve just finished reading LaRae’s book, Life Support Dang Near Killed Me.” It was a very moving experience for me.
You see, I am a Respiratory Therapist. My job now takes me all over the country, but, back in the late 1990s, I worked in an ICU not much different than the one in the book. My job, among other things, was to manage the breathing machines LaRae so aptly describes in her book, and to teach Residents how to manage them as well.
I can’t tell you how many ARDS patients we treated. A lot. The Docs, Nurses, Therapists, and Technicians were darn good. and hard working.
LaRae’s book tells the story from a point of view I could only imagine before reading her story. She confirms some of what I suspected, and fills in what I never considered but should have.
LaRae, this book should be required reading for every healthcare professional as well as every healthcare accreditation surveyor and hospital administrator.
This is a powerful story, packed with emotions and humor in the perfect proportions. LaRae’ Parry’s ARDS journey from outpatient surgery through ICU to recovery is a must read for everyone who’s ever had a loved one in an ICU.
Oh, and LaRae, those others in your room, they’re always there. I know. I’ve felt ‘em too.

Life Support Dang Near Killed Me Beware the Greedy Surgeon Volume 1 LaRae L Parry 9781500554019 Books Reviews
I bought this book because I recovered from pneumonia. The author was far more ill ten I had been, yet she has a honest and insightful way of sharing her experience with her readers. LaRae, thank you for writing about surviving ARDS. God bless you & keep you and your family safe.
A harrowing account of a relatively simple surgery gone bad, and the extraordinary efforts to keep the author alive long enough for her body to recover from Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
It's no fun lying there on life support. (I should know, because I too had to spend two days on a respirator once). You feel helpless at the time. But when it was all said and done, its gratifying to realize that there were so many people there, just watching over you.
I enjoyed reading LaRae's account of her experience.
In the face of such a traumatic event, the author held on to her humor and used it as battle gear to get through an extremely trying time. LaRae Parry is a writer who can bring you into her situation and, no matter how dire it may be, show you the upside of it.
This is a great read. Kudos to you for surviving and for sharing!
LaRae Parry writes a sometimes terrifying, spiced with humor, true story of her misadventure in the hospital. Life Support Dang Near Killed Me Beware . . . is a must read for anyone who is facing surgery. It will make you think twice, and encourages you to seek all the information possible before you go into the hospital. Always have an advocate who knows the ins and outs of hospitals and medication.
Am eagar to read her next book.
What happened to LaRae Parry is terrifying. What an amazing comeback she made! And I'm so glad she pulled through. Only Ms. Parry could relate such a scary nightmare and make it sound funny. Although the entire ordeal must have been frightening for her, she seemed to take in stride. Very well written, and quite enlightening. I certainly hope she has completely recovered by now. I enjoy reading her work.
A horrific true life medical ordeal experienced by this talented author who had to learn to read and write again before she wrote this account of events. A must-read before you visit a doctor and have surgery. It shows what I have been doing all along. Be part of your treatment, do your own research, get a second opinion, and if it doesn't feel right don't do it. Doctors are not Gods. There are so many incompetent medical professionals out there and you have to wonder how they made it to get or keep their license to practice medicine.
Written with a great sense of humor but nevertheless you will get a sense of the seriousness of this situation and the terrible irreversible repercussions still lingering for the author today. Looking forward to the continuation of this real life medical drama.
First this is a short, short book, and I would've liked to hear more how the author did after returning home. She has a fine sense of humor and you do feel a lot of compassion for her.
However, the editor didn't catch a lot of typos, and I'm assuming it's because the author probably relied on a family member to edit. This seems to be a problem with a lot of self published books. They need to remember readers want an uninterrupted reading experience and get someone proficient enough to edit correctly and to suggest changes that could've made the book much better. This is a decent book that could've been much better with a stronger editor.
I hope the author recovered well...all my best to her!
